Nerlens Noel Out for Sixers Wednesday; Joel Embiid Sore But Playing

CAMDEN, N.J. — Nerlens Noel will miss what would have been his second game of the season.

Noel will sit Wednesday against the Raptors because of a left ankle sprain suffered in his season debut on Sunday against the Pistons. He scored eight points in 10 minutes before leaving the game. Noel is listed as day to day.

Joel Embiid will suit up for the first time since last Thursday in New Orleans. He did not play Sunday because of right elbow inflammation, which he suffered when he hit the rim attempting to block a shot against the Pelicans. Embiid will be on a 28-minute restriction.

“It’s still kind of sore but it’s fine,” Embiid said Wednesday after shootaround, adding, “I feel good, I’ve got my legs, and it’s about finding that rhythm again because I haven’t played in a little bit. I’ll try to do my best.”

Jerryd Bayless continues to be sidelined by left wrist soreness. He has missed eight straight games with the lingering injury, sustained in training camp.

Following shootaround, there was a brief Ben Simmons sighting. The first overall pick was dressed in Sixers gear and wearing sneakers, not a boot. Simmons did not participate in shootaround and has not been cleared for practice. On Tuesday, he shot free throws for the first time in sneakers.
