CHICAGO -- John Lackey struck out nine while pitching into the seventh inning and the Chicago Cubs pulled away late to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-0 Friday for their ninth win in 10 games.
Lackey (6-2) combined with three relievers on Chicago's sixth shutout, scattering five hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Anthony Rizzo drove in the game's first run with a two-out double in the sixth off Archie Bradley (2-1) that center fielder Chris Owings misjudged.
The Cubs then scored five times with two outs in the eighth. Addison Russell and Javier Baez each hit two-run doubles against Silvino Bracho.
Chicago improved to 7-1 on its 10-game homestand and 38-15 overall, the best record in the majors (see full recap).
Mets reserves lead way in 6-2 win over Marlins
MIAMI -- With David Wright out, the injury-plagued New York Mets will be looking for reserves to pick up the slack -- and they did just that Friday night.
James Loney, Rene Rivera and Wilmer Flores provided more than enough run support for Noah Syndergaard, who struck out nine in seven innings to beat the Miami Marlins 6-2.

Newcomer Loney broke a 2-all tie with a two-run homer, one of three by the Mets. Backup catcher Rivera also hit a two-run homer. Flores, assuming an everyday role after Wright went on the disabled list Friday, had two hits and drove in a run (see full recap).
Orioles rally late to overcome Yankees' 3-run lead
BALTIMORE -- Chris Davis homered, Hyun Soo Kim and Mark Trumbo had three hits apiece and the Baltimore Orioles rallied to beat the New York Yankees 6-5 on Friday night.
After the Yankees used three home runs to build a 5-2 lead, Baltimore turned it around against Nathan Eovaldi and the New York bullpen.
The Orioles scored three runs in the sixth inning to pull even, then used two singles and a run-scoring groundout by Manny Machado to go ahead in the seventh.
Mychal Givens (5-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief and Zach Britton worked the ninth for his 16th save (see full recap).
Reds beat Nationals, spoil Dusty Baker's homecoming
CINCINNATI -- Eugenio Suarez got his third homer in two games with the help of a replay overturn, and the Cincinnati Reds spoiled manager Dusty Baker's homecoming by overpowering the Washington Nationals 7-2 on Friday night.
The Reds matched their season high with their third straight win -- only the third time they've put together that long of a streak. They have been on their best hitting surge of the season in the last five games, scoring 40 runs with the help of 15 homers.
