Lee Takes Loss in Spring Debut

Phillies No. 2 ace gets roughed up early by Tigers

Cliff Lee’s first spring training start in a Phillies uniform didn’t quite go as planned.

The Phillies No. 2 ace gave up two earned runs in two innings of work in a 6-2 Phillies loss to the Tigers in Clearwater Tuesday afternoon.

Lee, who is in his second stint with Philly and his first Spring Training, hit the leadoff man then gave up an RBI triple to Ryan Raburn who would come aorund to score on a sacrifice fly.

Lee wound up calming down striking out three Tigers, while walking one and giving up just the one hit.

Lee was followed by two scoreless frames from likely long-reliever Kyle Kendrick before former Tiger Eddie Bonnie got roughed up for five hits and four earned runs in his two innings of work.

The Phillies bullpen recovered though as Dan Meyer, Danys Baez and Mike Zagurski each pitched a scoreless inning.

At the plate, Dominic Brown extended his 0-fer spring with a 0-for-3 performance including two strikeouts while Jimmy Rollins and Ben Francisco collected RBI.

Roy Oswalt makes his Phillies spring training debut Wednesday against the Orioles.
