Jackson, Herremans Back in the Nest

Two of the big men on the Eagles offensive line returned to the active list Sunday.

The Birds activated guard Todd Herremans and center Jamaal Jackson from the physically unable to perform list.

Both Birds will likely step back into their starting roles protecting Kevin Kolb meaning that Max Jean-Gilles and Mike McGlynn are likely headed back to the bench.

Jackson tweeted about how it felt to return to the practice field:

First practice since the injury, I gotta say it felt different! Still a long road ahead of me, gotta stay on the grind! Progress is key...

And as is the case with any move at training camp someone had to go. The odd man was punter/kickoff specialist Ken Parrish who’s hope to play for his hometown team ended. Looks like punter Sav Rocca’s spot on the roster is safe.

Also backup safety Antoine Harris was placed on injured reserve after suffering a Lis Franc sprain in the preseason opener. The Birds worked out veteran safety Jamaal Fudge and rookie free agent Terrell Skinner to take Harris’ spot.

Here are quick scouting reports on the possible Birds care of Bleeding Green Nation:

Fudge has four years of NFL experience with the Jaguars and the Falcons. The 5-9, 190-pound Fudge played in two games for the Falcons last season, primarily on special teams, before being placed on the Injured Reserve list with a knee injury.

Skinner was a rookie free agent signing of the Vikings this year out of Maryland. Skinner was released when injuries at the wide receiver position became an issue for the team. Ironically, Skinner began his college career at Maryland as a wide receiver before making the transition his final two years to safety.

With Quintin Demps a bit roughed up with a knee contusion he suffered against Jacksonville and Harris out of the picture either of the free agents could serve as a safety gap moving forward in camp.
