PhilaU head coach Herb Magee tallies 900th win.

Philadelphia University head coach Herb Magee registered career win No. 900 on Saturday over Bloomfield College, 81-77.

The win puts Magee two back of the NCAA record of 902, held by former Indiana and Texas Tech head coach Bobby Knight.

So what’s been the key to Magee’s success?

"We treat every game the same and that's been the key. No game is more important than another,” the 68-year-old Magee said.

Dubbed the “Shot Doctor,” The Philadelphia University alumnus earned a reputation as a shooting guru and has worked with NBA players including Philly sports icon Charles Barkley, and former St. Joe’s star Jameer Nelson.

As Magee stood on the basketball court named after him, and whose No. 4 jersey is retired by his alma mater, he opted to downplay the victory as his current players celebrated.

"At the end of the year when I'm playing golf, at the coaches convention or having dinner with my wife, that's when I'll reflect and think 'that's pretty darn good."

The Rams go for Magee’s next win Tuesday night against University of the Sciences.
