Greetings From Clearwater: Welcoming Raul

PHI Raul Ibanez
Stephen Dunn

NBC 10's John Clark is soaking up the sun and the swings in Florida. He will be bringing you the latest from Clearwater, Fla. as the Phillies report for Spring Training.

The first full-squad workout isn't until Tuesday but most of the guys are already here.

Jimmy Rollins came rolling in Monday morning, as did Shane Victorino.

New leftfielder Raul Ibanez is here and he is a really polite guy -- he is going up to Phils coaches and introducing himself. He's a very consistent player and should add stability to that position.

Ibanez doesn't have the pop that Pat Burrell has but he does not go into prolonged slumps.

Raul is another left-handed bat but hits lefties very well. And, as former GM Pat Gillick pointed out, 80 percent of Major League pitchers are right handed anyway.

Raul is one of the reasons why Charlie Manuel told us this team could be better than last year.
