Flyers' Wayne Simmonds Named NHL First Star of the Week

Fresh off his appearance at the NHL All-Star Game, where he was voted MVP, the accolades keeping arriving for the Wayne Train.

Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds was named the NHL's First Star of the week on Monday afternoon.

Simmonds was not at practice at Skate Zone as he flew directly to Raleigh, N.C., for Tuesday's game.

San Jose's Patrick Marleau was named second star and Toronto goalie Frederik Andersen was named third star.

Simmonds' award includes the prior week, plus the All-Star Game. Besides the three goals in the tournament, including the Metro Division game-winner, Simmonds played well with the Flyers last week.

He had goals in three straight games, including the game-winner in New York against the Rangers and another one the night after against Toronto.
