Captain's Support: Claude Giroux Consoles Rookie Ivan Provorov After Blunder

It was something we've seen so little from Ivan Provorov.

A rookie mistake.

During the first period of the Flyers' wild 7-4 loss to the Blackhawks on Tuesday night (see Instant Replay), the 19-year-old defenseman, a smooth and dexterous skater, stumbled badly onto his backside while trying to retreat and recover a puck all by himself in his own end.

As Provorov fell, Blackhawks winger Dennis Rasmussen gobbled up the puck right in front of Flyers goalie Michal Neuvirth and scored easily on a point-blank look.

The Flyers' teenage foundation piece skated to the bench, visibly dejected and frustrated as he nailed his stick into the boards.

That's when the captain came in.

Claude Giroux leaned over to Provorov, put his hand on his shoulder and offered words of support. It was an awesome moment between captain and rookie.

Giroux, known more as a quiet leader, was there for Provorov.

And the youngster listened.
