Flyers Have Until July to Sign Ilya

It’s been almost a week now since the Philadelphia Flyers acquired the rights to goalie Ilya Bryzgalov. The Flyers have until July 1st to sign Bryzgalov to a deal or he will become an unrestricted free agent.

Bryzgalov is expected to ask for a multi-year deal worth at least $5 million annually.

“I am pleased the Flyers thought enough of me to make the trade with the Coyotes. Philadelphia is a great city, a great organization and a great team with a rich history,” said Bryzgalov, according to CSN Philly.

CSN also reports that the former Coyote is excited to negotiate with Philadelphia and says he wants to get a deal done and play for the Flyers for  “many years to come.”

The Flyers will first need to clear up some cap space to make room for the expected price Bryzgalov is asking for.

As of last summer, the Flyers also acquired top defenseman Dan Hamhuis from the Nashville Predators and couldn’t sign him to a deal before the July 1st deadline.
