When He's Had the Chance, Nelson Agholor Has Been Golden for the Eagles

It was his first touchdown in three months, his first touchdown at the Linc in more than a year.

No wonder he was excited.

"I missed the end zone," Agholor said. "I'm so happy I got in there again."

Nick Foles and Agholor hooked up on an 83-yard touchdown Sunday, the longest play in either of their careers. The third-quarter bomb gave the Eagles a 23-16 lead on the way to their fourth win in five games, 32-30 over the Texans.

It was the Eagles' longest passing TD since Michael Vick's 91-yarder to Jackson at Dallas in 2010 and matched the longest at the Linc in a decade - since Donovan McNabb's 90-yarder to Hank Baskett against the Rams in 2008.

"That was a beautiful ball," Agholor said. "I can't say enough about it. Beautiful ball, hit me in stride, and kept me running. I'm happy I finished the play in the end zone."

Foles' previous career-long TD pass was a 68-yarder to Jeremy Maclin against the Jaguars at the Linc on opening day 2014.

It was the first TD ever from Foles to Agholor at the Linc.

Foles audibled at the line of scrimmage, stepped up in the pocket behind solid protection and heaved a bomb to Agholor, who was covered fairly well by Tyrann Mathieu.

The ball sailed just past Mathieu's outstretched left hand and Agholor caught it at the 30 between the hashes and jogged down to the 1-yard-line, where he turned around, stretched his arms out and fell backwards into the end zone.

I saw a unique coverage that they play," Foles said. "We had a play in our arsenal that wasn't the one that was called, and I felt like I had time on the clock to check it and really take a shot with some speed with Nelly. We were able to execute it. Nelly made an amazing play to finish it off with a touchdown. It was really all of us being on the same page, recognizing the coverage, understanding how to run the route, and the line gave me time to throw it. It was awesome.

Here's a look at the longest TD pass plays by the Eagles at the Linc since it opened 17 years ago:

90 … Hank Baskett from Donovan McNabb vs. the Rams [Sept. 7, 2008]
89 … Hank Baskett from A.J. Feeley vs. the Falcons [Dec. 31, 2006]
87 … Hank Baskett from Donovan McNabb vs. the Cowboys [Oct. 8, 2006
84 … Donte' Stallworth from Donovan McNabb vs. the Redskins [Nov. 12, 2006]
83 … Nelson Agholor from Nick Foles vs. the Texans [Dec. 23, 2018]
83 … Jeremy Maclin from Kevin Kolb vs. the Falcons [Oct. 17, 2010]
78 … Jordan Matthews from Sam Bradford vs. the Cards [Dec. 20, 2015]
73 … Darren Sproles from Carson Wentz vs. the Steelers [Sept. 25, 2016]
72 … Nelson Agholor from Carson Wentz vs. Cards [Oct. 8, 2017]
71 … DeSean Jackson from Kevin Kolb vs. Saints [Sept. 20, 2009]
70 … Jeremy Maclin from Michael Vick vs. Lions [Oct. 14, 2012]

It's been an usual season for Agholor, who lost reps and targets when the Eagles acquired Golden Tate but has continued to shine when given an opportunity.

Agholor had a season-high 116 yards Sunday. He had more yards on the one 83-yard catch than Tate has in his last three games combined.

"I'll tell you, he's in a great place, mentally, physically," Doug Pederson said. "You saw it (Sunday). I was happy for him, getting in the end zone for him and a big play in the game. He's another one of the guys that's an unselfish guy. He comes to work every day, practices hard. Puts in the time, the effort. He just stays steady. Stays constant. Got a lot of confidence in him and it was really good to see him have that type of game."

Agholor only has 59 catches for 696 yards and two TDs, but he's certainly made the most of his chances.

He has seven catches of 35 or more yards this year, and only four guys have more - Tyreek Hill (11), T.Y. Hilton (9), George Kittle (8) and Mike Evans (8).

With Agholor, the numbers don't even begin to tell how valuable he is.
