Week 7 NFL Power Rankings: Eagles Riding a Roller Coaster

The Eagles lost by 18 points to the Vikings in Minnesota last weekend to fall to 3-3 and set up a matchup against the Cowboys for first place in the NFC East.

To the rankings:

1. 49ers (5-0) Last week: 3
I'm done sleeping on the 49ers. They're the only undefeated team in the NFC and beat the Rams, 20-7, on Sunday. They should beat Washington this weekend to improve to 6-0 on the season for the first time since 1990.

2. Saints (5-1) Last week: 1
The Saints were able to get a tight 13-6 win over the Jaguars and are a really dangerous team. Their defense was great in Jacksonville and Drew Brees will be back eventually.

3. Seahawks (5-1) Last week: 2
Since its loss to the Saints in Week 3, Seattle has rattled off three straight wins. The Seahawks beat the Rams two weeks ago and took down the Browns, 32-28, this week. Another tough game in Baltimore this weekend.

4. Packers (5-1) Last week: 5
With an assist from the referees, the Packers took down the Lions on Monday night and their only loss this season came to the Eagles on Thursday Night Football.

Jason Kelce lost his Super Bowl ring in the strangest way possible

Did the Eagles drop a hint about their plan for next week's draft?

5. Vikings (4-2) Last week: 8
Big win for the Vikings over the Eagles. Kirk Cousins threw four touchdowns and the Vikings proved they can win by throwing when Dalvin Cook doesn't go off. And that defense is pretty good, too.

6. Panthers (4-2) Last week: 10
Carolina was 0-2 with Cam Newton and it's 4-0 since Kyle Allen took over. Allen has thrown for 900 yards with seven TDs and no interceptions. And Christian McCaffrey is legitimately in the MVP race. The Panthers are on a bye before traveling to San Francisco in Week 8.

7. Rams (3-3) Last week: 6
Sure, the Rams lost to the 49ers this week, but they just traded for the best young cornerback in football. They shipped off Marcus Peters and upgraded by getting 24-year-old Jalen Ramsey. Maybe losing two first-round picks hurts them in the long run, but getting Ramsey helps immediately.

8. Eagles (3-3) Last week: 4
The 18-point loss was one of the worst in the Doug Pederson era, but the head coach remains confident, saying they're going to beat Dallas this week. The Eagles have talent, but do they have enough to make a run? They might need help.

9. Bears (3-2) Last week: 9
The Bears had a bye week and Mitchell Trubisky has returned to practice. They have a tough stretch coming, though, starting with a game against the Saints this weekend.

10. Lions (2-2-1) Last week: 11
The Lions got hosed on Monday Night Football. They're better than I thought they would be, but they are in last place in the NFC North and are the only team in that division without a winning record.

11. Cowboys (3-3) Last week: 7
After a 3-0 start, the Cowboys have lost their last three and are really banged up. The Cowboys will probably be without at least a few key players as they host the Eagles on Sunday night.

12. Cardinals (2-3-1) Last week: 14
The Cardinals have now won two more games than I expected. Who thought, coming into this season, they were going to beat the Falcons in Week 6?

13. Buccaneers (2-4) Last week: 12
Jameis Winston threw five (five!) interceptions against the Panthers. Can't win like that. We're in Year 5 for Winston and I still never know which guy is going to show up each Sunday.

14. Giants (2-4) Last week: 13
Even though they kept it close for a while, the Giants ended up being nothing more than a speed bump for the Patriots.

15. Falcons (1-5) Last week: 15
The Falcons stink and Dan Quinn is going to get fired. They play the Rams and Seahawks before a bye week, followed by the Saints and Panthers. They really could be 1-9 heading into Week 12.

16. Redskins (1-5) Last week: 16
Congratulations to Washington for getting a win on Sunday, but I'm not moving them up for a one-point win over the Dolphins, who might not win a game.
