Gunn-on-One: LB Chris Worley Knows There's More to Life Than an NFL Roster Spot

By 4 p.m. Saturday, close to 1,200 NFL players will be out of work as teams trim their rosters from 90 to 53. Some will move on to continue their dream with another team, but for many more their hopes will come to an end. A crushing blow to many, but not for Eagles linebacker Chris Worley.

He is well versed in dealing with obstacles in his life. After a four-year career at Ohio State, Worley signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He would be one of their final cuts in training camp that summer. A few days later, the Bengals added him to their practice squad. He finally got promoted to their active roster in December and saw action in their final two games.

In late July of this year, the Bengals cut him. In early August, he signed with Seattle only to be told four days later that his services were no longer needed. Worley joined the Eagles Aug. 19 - not a lot of time for him to showcase his skills for a team that's looking for linebacking help.

Thursday night in the preseason finale against the Jets, Worley recorded two tackles and an interception. Now, he sits and waits to find out his fate. Like many young players, he has sacrificed a lot to fulfill his goal of playing in the National Football League.

But if he gets cut again by a third team, so be it. According to him, that's nothing compared to what he had to endure growing up in Cleveland, Ohio. Listen to my Gunn-on-One conversation with Worley after the Jets game to get a better understanding of why life will still go on if football is not in his future.
