Eagles Waive Training Camp Standout Paul Turner

Paul Turner did everything he possibly could to make the Eagles' 53-man roster. And he did.

For one day.

After claiming three players, including speedy receiver Bryce Treggs from the 49ers, the Eagles are waiving Turner. They also have cut undrafted cornerback C.J. Smith. N.J. com first reported Smith was being released. To get the roster down to 53, the Eagles have released DT Taylor Hart, a fifth-round pick in 2014.

Turner, the undrafted rookie from Louisiana Tech, became a fan favorite during training camp and the preseason. During the four-week preseason, he led all Eagles with 17 catches for 165 yards and even had a highlight-reel one-hander. In fact, Turner led the entire NFL with 17 preseason catches. He also excelled as a punt returner, taking one 71 yards to the house in the preseason finale.

If the rookie clears waivers, the Eagles would like to add him to their practice squad, according to a league source.
