As the Eagles report for training camp, they've added another veteran wide receiver to the mix, signing 29-year-old Kamar Aiken.
Aiken will join the Eagles on a one-year deal.
Aiken, the 6-2, 213-pound receiver, went undrafted out of Central Florida in 2011. He has played in the NFL for six seasons with varied levels of success.
In an offseason where the Eagles have had a ton of low-risk, high-reward signings, this is just the latest. Aiken will compete for a job, but it's unlikely the cap-strapped Eagles really broke the bank for him. (The Eagles had around $6 million in cap space, according to the most recent numbers from the NFLPA.)
Aiken's best season came back in 2015, when he had 75 catches for 944 yards and five touchdowns with the Ravens. That's where the Joe Douglas connection comes in. Douglas, the Eagles' scouting head, was in the Ravens' scouting department during Aiken's best seasons.
Last year with the Colts, Aiken caught just 15 passes for 133 yards. Those are his only NFL catches outside of his three years in Baltimore. Before joining the Ravens, Aiken spent a year in Buffalo and a year in New England. He joined the Ravens' practice squad the next season and then eventually worked his way onto the active roster and a bigger role in the seasons after.

With the move, the Eagles have 12 receivers on their expanded roster, which is now up to 88 total players. While Alshon Jeffery, Mike Wallace, Nelson Agholor and Mack Hollins are considered locks to make the team, there's now a bunch of guys fighting for the final one or two spots. You can add Aiken to a group that includes Markus Wheaton, Shelton Gibson, Bryce Treggs, Rashard Davis and Greg Ward.
That's obviously something to keep an eye on as training camp practices kick off tomorrow afternoon.
