Doug Pederson: Eagles Not Interested in Signing Jeremy Maclin ‘right Now'

The Eagles have no interest in free-agent wide receiver Jeremy Maclin "right now," head coach Doug Pederson said Thursday.

Pederson was with Maclin from 2009 through 2012 on Andy Reid's Eagles staff. Reid went to Kansas City in 2013 and Maclin followed him there in 2014 as a free agent. Pederson then spent 2014 and 2015 as Maclin's offensive coordinator under Reid with the Chiefs before becoming head coach of the Eagles last year.

The Chiefs released Maclin last week. Maclin, the Eagles' first-round pick in 2009, ranks ninth in Eagles history with 343 catches and 4,771 yards and seventh with 36 TD catches.

But despite the personal connection and even though Maclin is only 29 and just a year removed from his second consecutive 1,000-yard season, Pederson said the Eagles aren't interested.

ESPN reported Tuesday the Eagles were "showing interest" in Maclin, but apparently, that isn't the case.

"Love the guys that we have," Pederson said. "We're always constantly looking and trying to better our roster at every position, but at this time we're pleased with the guys that we have."

The Eagles return Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor and Dorial Green-Beckham, they signed Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith, and they drafted Mack Hollins and Shelton Gibson.

Maclin had his worst NFL season last year with Kansas City, catching just 44 passes for 536 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games.

"We have some young talent that's playing extremely well," Pederson said.

"So as we move forward and into camp, that's what I'm trying to see, is where our young guys are and how they can handle the sort of workload and what we're trying to do offensively and in our passing game."
