When Phillies outfielder Andrew McCutchen suffered a torn ACL in June and faced surgery, he was looking for some reassurance, someone to talk to who'd been through what he was about to go through.
Maybe a professional athlete from Philadelphia who had knee surgery not too long ago.
He found it in Carson Wentz.
McCutchen, who signed with the Phillies in December, had met Wentz at a Sixers game Wentz attended with Bryce Harper and Rhys Hoskins, and after "Cutch" got hurt he didn't hesitate to call the Eagles' quarterback, who underwent knee surgery Dec. 13, 2017.
"We were just talking (about) doctors, what to expect, different things," Wentz recalled after practice Sunday. "It sucks. It sucks for him, and just when injuries happen like that your heart kind of breaks for guys, It's just a part of sports that really is unfortunate."
Gregg Murphy revealed the conversation during the Phillies-White Sox broadcast Saturday night on NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Wentz said he was happy to provide any sort of comfort he could to McCutchen, even though the two didn't know each other all that well.
"I just wanted to keep him in high spirits," Wentz said. "I know he's a man of faith as well and let him know that God's got control of this and he knows that. I just wanted him to know I was praying for him and that I was with him on it and just talk about what to expect from it as well."
