The driver of the van, identified by police as Felipe Castelblanco, 47, walked away from the scene but was taken into custody a short distance away, police said.
Castelblanco smelled strongly of alcohol, was unsteady on his feet and had bloodshot and watery eyes, according to investigators. He allegedly admitted to drinking whiskey prior to the crash.
Castelblanco was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, failure to render aid and failure to notify law enforcement. He is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

Derek Barnett was the 14th pick in last year's NFL draft after playing college football at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
