The Eagles Only Pro Bowl-Worthy Player?

Is the only guy on the Eagles worthy of becoming a Pro Bowler this season actually the kicker?

A season Eagles fans surely would love to forget will (mercifully) come to an end in two weeks.

With no playoffs this season, the only thing -- besides the seemingly inevitable end to the Andy Reid Era -- to look forward to could be the Pro Bowl.

Well, not the actual game but rather the selections. As fans consider what Eagles are worthy of being called a Pro Bowler?

Only one name comes to mind -- kicker Alex Henery.

I was upset as anyone when Reid and copmany let Eagles legend David Akers walk in favor of Henery. But in less than two years, Reid seems vindicated.

Henery went almost the entire season missing only one kick until he was off the mark twice against the Buccaneers two weeks back. His 89.3 percent of field goals made is second-best amongst full-time NFC kickers with only Dallas’ Dan Bailey (92.6 percent) better.

Where Bailey has a higher volume of kicks, Henery has been better from distance, making 11 of 13 from 40 yards and beyond while Bailey made only seven of nine kicks from long range.

Yes, Henery missed an extra point this season and had that bad game in Tampa, but besides that he’s been incredibly solid so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him sent to Hawaii.

After Henery, you might struggle to find an Eagle worthy of Pro Bowl selection -- it makes sense considering they are a four-win team -- but there is one guy on the offensive line who deserves at least consideration. Evan Mathis.

The Eagles veteran guard has not only been the only member of the Eagles offensive line to stay healthy this season but he has also been one of the steadiest forces on a consistently-improving unit. I don’t think Mathis will be named a Pro Bowl starter but I wouldn’t be surprised if he received well-deserved backup or alternate honors.

There is still time to vote for Henery and Mathis. Pro Bowl voting ends Monday.
