Season Likely Over for Allen

I’ll let "Football Night in Philly’s" Howard Eskin explain the latest Eagles loss:

“Word I get is Eagles safety Nate Allen has torn patella tendon in right knee,” Eskin tweeted.

That would mean that the Eagles second-round pick -- the guy they took with the “Donovan McNabb pick” they got from the Redskins -- will join Eagles first-round pick Brandon Graham on the injured reserve list.

Allen hurt himself late in the first half of the Eagles-Giants game while trying to slow up on a 10-yard grab by New York's Mario Manningham. Allen was down on the turf for a couple minutes before being carted off.

Expect Allen to have surgery soon. Sources told Eskin that with this type of injury surgery needs to happen within a week.

With Allen done, expect the Birds to rely heavily on seventh-rounder Kurt Coleman. The Ohio State alum has seen plenty of action this season especially when Allen missed the Redskins game.

Looking back on Allen’s season. He showed growing pains along the way but was fairly impressive at free safety. He had 48 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions and a forced fumble in his rookie campaign.

The question now will be if Allen can get himself ready in time for training camp.
