Eagles Will Tame the Lions: NBC10 “Experts”

Our football-picking "experts" see the Eagles going to 4-2 as they beat the lowly Lions

A week after the majority of our experts hit the mark picking the Steelers to beat the Eagles in Pittsburgh; our football-picking team is heavily behind an Eagles victory back home against the Lions.

“Look for the Eagles to bounce back this week with their offense’s back against the wall,” said sales guy Corey. “They’ll finally click and put up big offensive numbers, the most they’ve gotten all year in a single game.  Eagles 27, Lions 17.”

The idea that Michael Vick and the offense will finally click was shared by mostly everyone except the one NBC10er not to pick the Eagles.

“75-3 Lions,” predicted sales guy Brian. (Not that he is a Detroit native looking forward to see his team in person.)

Disregarding Brian, mostly everyone else sees the Birds entering the Bye Week victorious despite Vick’s recent bout with fumblitis.

“Turnovers continue to haunt this team, but I believe that will not be a factor this week,” said photo journalist Rich. “The Eagles will exploit the weakest part of Detroit's defense -- the secondary. Look for Vick to pass more than he has been lately and the Birds to win fairly easily, 27-17. No ‘Lion.’”

Nice pun, man.

“Eagles will win 21-10,” said reported Tim Furlong. “The defense will shut down Calvin ‘Megatron’ Johnson and Vick will be just efficient enough to get the home win. He will NOT fumble in this game.”

NBC10 sports reported John Clark has it 31-20 Birds while news anchor Tim Lake sees the Eagles beginning a string of victories with a 21-3 victory over Detroit.

But, not every expert is so keen on the Eagles dispatching the Lions without problems.

“Every Eagles game has been close,” said sports producer Dean. “So, don’t expect anything different.  Eagles win 24-17.”

And Birds Nest blogger Ryan Wilson has it 24-20.

“The Lions are secretly one of the worst teams in the NFL. The vaunted defensive line is in name only, quarterback Matthew Stafford has struggled with consistency, and wide receiver Calvin Johnson was on the cover of Madden NFL ‘13. It could be a good day for Philly to really commit to the run.”

Fellow Birds Nest blogger Brian Solomon is more confident in the Eagles cruising to a 27-17 win.

“Detroit's pass defense is a weakness. This may be the game Vick and the Eagles receivers finally break out.”

As for this writer, I have witnessed huge Eagles wins over Detroit dating back to that 1995 playoff game at the Vet where the Eagles won 58-37 – the first of six-straight wins over Detroit that also include 30-13 and 56-21 beatings. I am going to pay homage to that 2006 56-21 game (the one where the Eagles wore the yellow and baby blue throwbacks) where Kevin Curtis had three touchdowns and 221 yards and pick the Eagles to win 41-20 as Jason Avant catches 10 balls for 135 yards and two TDs.
