Union Re-sign 30-year-old Left Back Fabinho

The Union have a left back for the 2016 season.

On Friday, the club announced the official re-signing of 30-year-old left back Fabinho. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Fabinho adds depth to our back line and we are happy to have him back with us ahead of the 2016 season," Union sporting director Earnie Stewart said. "We have spent a great deal of time looking to strengthen our back line during this offseason and we are confident that Fabinho's veteran experience will add value on the field and in the locker room."

Fabinho, acquired in 2013 on a free transfer, played 59 games for the Union, scoring two goals and seven assists. Out of contract, he was believed to be a bubble player as the Union went into roster deconstruction mode this offseason after Stewart entered the picture as the team's architect.

The Brazilian will join a crowded defensive line for the Union, who added three defenders at the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, including the second and third overall selections, center back Joshua Yaro and right back Keegan Rosenberry. The Union also signed 26-year-old Brazilian defender Anderson Conceicao, a left-footed center back capable of playing left back.

Fabinho joins returning defenders Richie Marquez, Maurice Edu and Ray Gaddis.
