Union Home PPL Park Changes Name to Talen Energy Stadium

Union fans, welcome to Talen Energy Stadium.

After playing home to the Union for six seasons, PPL Park will now be known as Talen Energy Stadium after Allentown-based PPL Corporation's power generation business spun off and combined with Riverstone Holdings on June 1, creating Talen Energy.

"We look forward to continuing a strategic and great partnership with Talen Energy and are truly excited for the stadium to have a new look come 2016," Union chief revenue officer and executive vice president Dave Rowan said in the team's official release. "While the name will be changing, we remain solely devoted to bringing our loyal fans the best possible game-day experience and we welcome this change as a recommitment to our values."

But the change from PPL Park to Talen Energy Stadium wasn't a given. In 2010, PPL Corp. partnered with the Union on a 10-year, $20 million naming rights deal. According to the Daily Times, the Union did possess an opt-out clause on that sponsorship which kicked in after four seasons. Still, the team went with the energy partner.

"We're thrilled to be continuing this relationship with Talen Energy," vice president of corporate partnerships and premium seating Drew Young said. "Our two companies share a level of commitment and passion that we want to utilize as our organization continues to grow. This is a mutually beneficial opportunity that we expect to fully capitalize on."
