Union Add Oka Nikolov to Technical Staff as Assistant Coach

The Union on Thursday added Oka Nikolov to their technical staff as an assistant coach.

The 41-year-old, who played for the Union in 2013 (but did not register), will work primarily with the team's goalkeepers.

"Oka's career speaks for itself and we're extremely confident in his abilities to mentor our young group at that position," Union sporting director Earnie Stewart said in a statement released by the team. "Due to his extensive background and organizational familiarity, we know he can immediately come in and make a difference for us. We're excited to have him on board."

Nikolov played 19 seasons with Eintracht Frankfurt of the German Bundesliga league. For Eintracht Frankfurt, he played in more than 370 Bundesliga games and made a league-record 14 saves in one match.

Also on his playing résumé are stints with the Union in 2013, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, of the North American Soccer League, in 2014, and five international games for Macedonia.

After retiring from his playing days in 2014, Nikolov became a coach at Eintracht Frankfurt Talent Academy.

He also served the German under-19 national team as its goalkeeping coach and is currently the assistant coach for the Macedonian national team.
