Union Acquire Anderson Conceico on One-year Loan

Roster additions keep on coming for the Union.

On Wednesday, the club acquired 26-year-old Brazilian defender, Anderson Conceicao, on a one-year loan from Tombense FC of Brazil's Serie C.

The terms of the loan were not disclosed. Conceicao will be with the Union for the duration of the 2016 season.

"Anderson's natural athletic ability and winning pedigree was really something we zeroed in on during our offseason assessment," Union sporting director Earnie Stewart said. "He's the type of defender who really addresses some of our technical needs and we strongly believe we're getting someone who is committed to helping build the next chapter of our club."

Conceicao is a 6-foot-2, left-footed center back who will bolster a Union back line that already features Richie Marquez, Maurice Edu and Ray Gaddis. Though, by moving defensive midfielder Michael Lahoud to the New York Cosmos on Tuesday, the Union have opened the door for Edu to move from center back to the defensive midfield role to which he's accustomed.

The Brazilian may also be a consideration for the Union's open left back spot, which was previously owned by Fabinho, who is out of contract.

Conceicao, though contracted with Tombense, has bounced around teams and leagues, most recently playing 30 games for America Mineiro of Brazil's second division last season. Conceicao does have some European experience on his resume, as he played 19 matches for La Liga's RCD Mallorca in 2012-13.
