Chris Pontius Scores 2 Goals to Send Union Past Crew

BOX SCORE

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Chris Pontius scored two goals and the Union beat the Columbus Crew 2-1 on Saturday night.

The Union (1-1) won for the first time in eight games at Columbus, and bounced back from a 2-0 loss at FC Dallas in their opener.

Pontius, who was acquired in a December trade after seven seasons with D.C. United, tapped in his first goal in front of the 6-yard box just before the end of the first half. His goal in the 71st minute put the Union up 2-0.

The Crew's Cedrick split two defenders and shot to the near post, but goalkeeper Andre Blake dove to knock the ball out of bounds. But on the ensuring corner kick, Kei Kamara scored a header goal in the 87th minute. Kamara scored a career-high 22 goals and led the Crew to the MLS Cup last season.

The Crew (0-1) are 6-1-1 at home against the Union.
