Summer League: Sixers Eliminated in Vegas as Ben Simmons Sits Again

LAS VEGAS -- The Sixers fought to stay in the tournament without Ben Simmons (rest) for the second straight game. But like their opening game against the Lakers, they fell short down the stretch against the Nets.

The Sixers fell 87-84 on Thursday at Thomas & Mack Center and will play Friday in the consolation round.

The teams swapped baskets late in the game before the Sixers went cold in the final minutes. They did not score in the final 1:52 of the game as the Nets finished out on a 4-0 stretch.

Turning point
The Sixers led 84-83 until Chris McCullough put the Nets up 85-84 off a driving layup. T.J. McConnell drove the basket and missed a jumper with 5.9 seconds left. The Sixers fouled Rondae Hollis Jefferson on the next possession and he knocked down both free throws. Brandon Paul missed an attempt at a game-winning three and the Nets held on for a win.

Inside the box score
Sean Kilpatrick led all players with 24 points (8 for 19 from the floor) and eight rebounds. McCullough recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Sixers were led by Paul, who scored 18 points (6 for 20 from the field, 2 for 11 from three). James Webb III and Maodo Lo both dropped 13 points. Richaun Holmes posted 12 points and eight rebounds.

Bench support
Simmons, Jahlil Okafor and Jerami Grant watched the game with the Sixers on the bench.

Former Sixers ties
The Nets' summer league squad included several former Sixers and Delaware Sevens players. Henry Sims played for the Sixers during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Kilpatrick played with the 87ers over two seasons and earned a call up to the Nets in February. Isaiah Whitehead (Seton Hall) worked out for the Sixers before this year's draft.
