Source: Ben Simmons Cleared to Advance Training; No Decision on Summer League

As the season winds down, Ben Simmons has taken another step toward his return.

Simmons had a scan on his right foot on Tuesday. He was cleared to advance his training and on-court workload, a source told CSNPhilly.com's Jessica Camerato. Simmons' progress to full activity will be gradual and conservative.

"I had my scan today, green check," Simmons said on Uninterrupted Tuesday evening. "We live. I'm looking forward to getting back on the court and I'm looking forward to a big season with the Sixers."

The 2016 first overall suffered a Jones fracture during the final day of training camp and did not play this season. Up until this point, he had been limited to 5-on-0 scripting work.

"Obviously I did not have the season I wanted to," Simmons said in the video. "But I feel like I learned a lot this season … I thought I would come into the league ready to go. But I had a setback and it really gave me the chance to open my eyes and realize I have a lot of work to do. But at the same time, it gave me a learning opportunity that most guys don't get. I had like a redshirt season."

Simmons' next opportunity to play in an official game would be in the summer league. There has not been a determination of his status for the competition in July. It would not be out of the ordinary if he sat in summer league action; Simmons did not play in every game last summer when he was healthy.

Harden effusive in praising Maxey, very brief on Morey and Embiid

On Monday Brett Brown said, "I think it would be good if he did, but I wouldn't say it's a prerequisite he has to play. I think still his health and the judgement of his health rules the day."
