The curse lives.
A Sixers rookie is sidelined in summer league. Landry Shamet, selected 26th overall by the Sixers in the 2018 draft, suffered a right ankle sprain and will miss the remainder of summer league play.
X-rays came back negative and the Wichita State product will be re-evaluated in approximately three weeks.
Shamet added six points - both threes - in 12 minutes before leaving Friday night's loss to the Celtics with the injury.
"Just a loose ball on the rebound, four guys converged there and I think I came down on somebody's foot, kind of tweaked my ankle a little bit," Shamet told reporters. "Training staff looked at it, addressed it and thought it was smart to hold me out, no need to push through anything right now and potentially jeopardize my future or anything like that. So they've been taking care of me, analyzing me."
Shamet said there's "no question" he'll be ready for the start of the season.
He now joins the likes of Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz, who also suffered an ankle sprain and missed the remainder of the 2017 summer league.

Fortunately, Shamet's injury doesn't appear to be as severe as the cases above.
Shamet redshirted his freshman year at Wichita State after fracturing his left foot, and fractured his right foot last July.
"Just watching and learning," Shamet said. "I've been in this situation before where I've had to watch with my foot injuries. There's a lot of information still to be taken in, lot of learning. That'll be no problem, it'll just be something where I continue to take information in."
The Sixers are high on Shamet's versatile skillset and shooting ability (see story). In his career at Wichita State, the combo guard shot 43.7 percent from three-point range. Shamet led the American Athletic Conference with 5.2 assists per game last season.
