Performing artist Sevyn Streeter is back in Philadelphia and set to perform the National Anthem before Friday nights Sixers game against the Lakers.
Streeter, who was supposed to perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the Sixers' home opener on Oct. 26, was replaced after the team didn't allow her to sing wearing a "We Matter" jersey.
"I'm at the 76ers game to sing the national anthem," the singer/songwriter said in a video she posted on Twitter, "and the organization is telling me that I can't because I'm wearing a 'We Matter' jersey."
It was later reported that Streeter had signed a contract that prohibited political statements. Per the report, Streeter was offered an alternate shirt and told she could wear her own shirt in the stands after the performance.
The incident received national attention as well as a negative response from many Sixers players, and resulted in the Sixers issuing a statement apologizing to Streeter as well as welcoming the singer back to Philadelphia to perform.
"I have accepted their apology," Streeter said. "In order to move forward, it was important to me that we take action and use this as an opportunity to create positive change and dialogue throughout the community." [[247269581, C]]
