Report: Sixers Granted Permission to Interview 3 Candidates for GM Position

It sounds like the Sixers' GM search is picking up steam.

For the first time since the team was reportedly rebuffed in July in an attempt to hire Rockets general manager Daryl Morey, a few names have been linked with the vacant GM position.

Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday that the Sixers have been granted permission to interview Warriors assistant general manager Larry Harris, Jazz assistant general manager Justin Zanik and Rockets executive vice president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas.

The report comes after managing partner Josh Harris' comments on Monday stressing the team's patient approach in their search. The Sixers promoted Ned Cohen (assistant general manager), Marc Eversley (senior vice president of player personnel), Elton Brand (vice president of basketball operations) and Alex Rucker (senior vice president of analytics and strategy) as they continue to function without a GM following Bryan Colangelo's resignation in June.

Of the three names, Rosas is perhaps the most intriguing. Given the Sixers' interest in Morey, it makes sense that they'd also want to interview his top executive. Rosas is also the player personnel scout for USA Basketball and has been with the Rockets for 17 years. He served as the Mavericks' GM for three months in 2013 before resigning. Rosas was reportedly a candidate for the Hornets' GM position, which ultimately went to Mitch Kupchak.

Harris has prior GM experience as well, having served as the GM of the Bucks between 2003 and 2008.

Zanik also has a history with the Bucks; it appeared he was set to become their GM in 2017, but the team ended up hiring Jon Horst.
