It appears Christian Wood's strong performance this summer has paid off ... just not with the Sixers.
According to The Vertical's Shams Charania, Wood has agreed to a two-year contract with the Charlotte Hornets.
Wood, an unrestricted free agent, appeared in six games between the Utah Jazz Summer League and Samsung NBA Summer League for the Sixers this month. The 6-11 forward averaged 15.8 points and 5.7 rebounds in 17.7 minutes during those contests. Wood shot 56.2 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from three-point range.
"I got to approach the offseason with a sense of urgency," Wood said last week in Utah (see story). "Just working. Just doing the best I can and doing the most I can on the floor to help the team and the young guys."
Wood went undrafted out of UNLV in 2015 before signing a multiyear contract with the Sixers last September. He was waived in January to make room for Elton Brand, but injuries to the frontcourt allowed the Sixers to bring Wood back on a pair of 10-day contracts before signing him for the remainder of the season.
In all, Wood made 17 appearances with the Sixers as a rookie, averaging 3.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in 8.5 minutes a night.
The 20-year-old Wood spent most of the 2015-16 season with the Sixers' D-League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers. In 32 games for the 87ers, Wood posted 17.3 points (52.9 percent shooting), 9.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 28.8 minutes of action.
