Last Year's 26th Pick Furkan Korkmaz in Town to Visit With Sixers

CAMDEN, N.J. - Furkan Korkmaz arrived in Philadelphia on Tuesday for his visit with the Sixers. He was at the team's training complex on Wednesday.

Korkmaz, 19, has been playing in Europe since the Sixers drafted him last summer with the 26th pick. He has a buyout on his contract with Anadolu Efes which may prevent him from coming to the NBA next season.

In the meantime, the Sixers are interested in having Korkmaz get to know the coaching staff and players better while also further evaluating the shooting guard on the court in workouts.

"There's still talk and he's got a desire to come over this year, but I think all of that is still subject to discussion, negotiation," president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo said Monday (see story). "There's a buyout in his contract that will be somewhat restrictive with respect to him coming over given his draft slot and his slotted salary within the rookie scale."

This visit is another part of the Sixers' continued involvement with Korkmaz. Members of the front office traveled to Europe last month to watch him play in the Basketball Champions League while he was on loan to Banvit.

The Sixers also would like Korkmaz to participate on their summer league team in July. They are trying to determine his availability and if he will play for the Turkish national team in under-20 competition instead.
