Sixers center Joel Embiid and point forward Ben Simmons will not participate in the summer league, president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo said Monday.
Embiid is rehabbing a torn meniscus in his left knee that required surgery, while Simmons missed last season because of a Jones fracture in his right foot.
"Doing well. Everyone's moving along," Colangelo said of Embiid and Simmonds. "Things are on course for a healthy return next season. They're not playing in the summer league."
Despite being limited to just 31 games this season, Embiid joins fellow Sixer Dario Saric as one of the three finalists for the NBA Rookie fo the Year award. Embiid, the 2014 third-overall pick, averaged 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in his first season.
Simmons, the No. 1 overall pick in 2016, missed his first season because of his foot injury. The Sixers plan on using Simmons as their point guard in 2017-18.
The NBA Summer League begins July 1 in Orlando, Utah on July 3 and Las Vegas on July 7. The Orlando and Utah summer leagues end July 6, while the Vegas summer league ends July 17.
