Vince Velasquez Hurts His Forearm But Finishes Off Incredible Play Left-handed

Vince Velasquez is one athletic dude.

In the second inning Saturday against the Nationals, Adam Eaton lined a 96 mph shot back to the mound that hit Velasquez so hard that it caromed directly off his right elbow/forearm and to the left of the mound.

Somehow, Velasquez fielded the ball and fired it left-handed to nail the speedy Eaton by a step at first base (see the play right here).

After the play, Velasquez writhed in pain for about a minute in between the mound and third base. After being attended to by Phillies trainer Scott Sheridan, Velasquez walked off the field and came out of the game.

An unfortunate sequence for Velasquez, who struck out three and allowed a run in his two innings of work. Through 17 starts, he has a 4.69 ERA.

We'll know more after the game regarding Velasquez's health and his ability to make his next start later this week at Pittsburgh.
