Report: Phillies Prospect Matt Imhof Suffers Major Eye Injury

Phillies minor league pitcher Matt Imhof suffered what could be a career-threatening injury to his right eye during a routine postgame workout late last week, according to Imhof's agent Adam Karon, who talked to ESPN.com.

Selected by the Phils in the second round (47th overall) of the 2014 draft, the 22-year-old Imhof is now with the Class-A Clearwater Threshers. The injury occurred while the left-hander was using stretching bands after a game at Brevard County. Karon called it a "significant injury to his right eye."

The story also cites a source who said Imhof was hit in the eye when a piece of equipment malfunctioned, already has had surgery and likely will need more procedures.

Imhof, who attended Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, is 4-3 this season with a 3.91 ERA in 14 games (nine starts) for Clearwater.
