Right-handed pitcher Sixto Sanchez, the Phillies' top prospect, was placed on the DL Saturday with right elbow inflammation.
Sanchez, who turns 20 on July 29, is 4-3 with a 2.51 ERA in eight starts this season. He's struck out 45, walked 11 and allowed just one home run in 46⅔ innings for Clearwater (Class A Advanced).
In his last start on June 3, Sanchez pitched seven shutout innings and allowed two hits.
Armed with an upper-90s fastball and advanced command for a pitcher his age, Sanchez is the Phillies' best and most intriguing pitching prospect.
Sanchez was examined in Philadelphia and will be reevaluated in 2 to 3 weeks.
