The Phillies on Saturday night signed veteran relief pitcher Francisco Rodriguez to a minor-league contract with an invite to big-league camp, a source confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Rodriguez will make $2.5 million if he makes the Phillies' opening day roster

FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman first reported the signing.

The 36-year-old Rodriguez will compete for a job in the Phillies' deep bullpen. The Phillies bolstered their bullpen this winter, signing relievers Pat Neshek and Tommy Hunter to join closer Hector Neris and Luis Garcia.

In 28 games last season with the Detroit Tigers, Rodriguez was 2-5 with a 7.82 ERA, seven saves, six blown saves and he allowed nine home runs in 25 1/3 innings.

Rodriguez, a six-time All-Star with the nickname "K-Rod," is fourth all-time on baseball's save list with 437. He's also pitched for the Angels, Mets, Brewers and Orioles.

Pitchers and catchers will report to Clearwater on Feb. 14. Gabe Kapler's first full-squad workout will be on Feb. 19.
