Phillies Pitching Prospect Spencer Howard Throws No-hitter to Lead Lakewood to Finals

Former Phillies second-round pick Spencer Howard made minor-league history Friday night, pitching a no-hitter for Class A Lakewood in the BlueClaws' 1-0 win over Kannapolis to send the BlueClaws to the South Atlantic League Finals.

Howard walked just one and struck out nine, needing just 103 pitches to finish the no-no.

According to Phillies minor league reporter Jay Floyd, Howard hit 100 mph multiple times in the second inning. He was still hitting 96 in the ninth.

The Phillies selected Howard, a 6-foot-3 right-hander, in the second round in 2017 out of Cal Poly.

This was his first full season as a pro and he went 9-8 with a 3.78 ERA, striking out 147 in 112 innings.
