Just after first pitch Sunday afternoon, the Phillies announced an addition to their organizational pitching depth.
The club claimed RHP Phil Klein off of waivers from Texas. Klein was placed on the 40-man roster and optioned to Triple A.
Klein, 27, was designated for assignment on June 9.
In 8⅔ innings pitched in the majors this year, Klein was 0-1 with a 5.19 ERA and had 12 strikeouts. In 11⅔ innings at Triple A Round Rock, he had a 4.63 ERA.
Klein, a 30th round pick in the 2011 draft, has spent the last three seasons bouncing between the Triple A and MLB levels.
In 45 innings with the Rangers over the last three seasons, Klein had a 4.80 ERA with 47 strikeouts to 22 walks.
