The Phillies on Friday acquired veteran power hitter Justin Bour from the Miami Marlins. They sent left-handed pitcher McKenzie Mills to the Marlins. Mills was pitching for Single A Clearwater.
Bour, 30, is a left-handed power hitting first baseman. He's hitting .227/347/.412 with 19 home runs and 54 RBI this season. The Phillies are set at first base with Carlos Santana. Bour will likely to be used as a power bat off the bench and an occasional starter.
The last time the Phillies acquired a left-handed power bat was during the stretch drive of 2008 and he helped the Phils win a World Series in 2008.
Bour is seen to have a similar role to Stairs.
To make room for Bour, the Phillies designated pitcher Jake Thompson for assignment.
