MLB Notes: With Craig Kimbrel Injured, Red Sox Acquire Brad Ziegler

BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox have placed closer Craig Kimbrel on the 15-day disabled list with an injured left knee that will likely sideline him for three to six weeks.

He's expected to have surgery Monday for a medial meniscus tear.

Manager John Farrell said Saturday the right-hander was injured shagging fly balls before Friday's win over Tampa Bay.

Kimbrel is 1-3 with a 3.55 ERA and 17 saves in 19 chances (see full story).

Red Sox: Ziegler acquired from Diamondbacks
SAN FRANCISCO -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded closer Brad Ziegler to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for two minor league prospects.

The deal was announced late Friday night after the Diamondbacks' 6-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants.

Ziegler, who owns Arizona's club record of 43 consecutive saves, is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the season. Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart had been in talks with Ziegler's agents regarding an extension but those negotiations stalled.
