MLB Notes: Alex Rodriguez to Return From DL on Tuesday

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The New York Yankees plan to activate designated hitter Alex Rodriguez from the disabled list Tuesday when the team begins a three-game homestand against Toronto.

There had been speculation that Rodriguez — out since May 4 with a strained right hamstring — might be activated Saturday. But manager Joe Girardi decided against that after the three-time AL MVP went through a full day of rehab.

"It makes sense probably to give him a couple extra days," Girardi said. "He wouldn't have played today anyway because he did so much yesterday. So really you're weighing one day, and one day gets him a couple extra days."

Rodriguez was batting .194 with five home runs and 12 RBIs. The 14-time All-Star was eligible to come off the DL on Thursday, but the Yankees opted to give him additional time for rehab. New York has an off day Monday.

Rodriguez took batting practice before Saturday's game at Oakland and was scheduled to run as well.

Bryce Harper's jersey from Papelbon fight to be auctioned
The website for an auction house that specializes in sports memorabilia says it is offering the Washington Nationals jersey Bryce Harper was wearing on the day he and teammate Jonathan Papelbon got into a dugout dustup last season.

A listing on Lelands.com shows an item it calls "Bryce Harper signed game worn jersey from the Papelbon fight (MLB authentic)."

As of 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, the website said there had been six bids, with a top offer of about $4,800.

During a home game in September, Papelbon grabbed Harper by the throat, then shoved the eventual NL MVP with both hands before teammates and members of Washington's coaching staff intervened. Papelbon was suspended for four games by the Nationals.

Royals activate Mike Moustakas off 15-day DL
CHICAGO -- The Kansas City Royals have activated third baseman Mike Moustakas off the 15-day disabled list.

The Royals optioned Cheslor Cuthbert to Triple-A Omaha on Saturday after he hit .255 in 13 starts in place of Moustakas.

Moustakas was hitting .258 with seven home runs before a left thumb injury sidelined him this month. He went 2 for 8 with three strikeouts in two rehab games for Double-A Northwest Arkansas and rejoined the Royals on Friday.

Moustakas hit 22 homers in 2015 when he was an All-Star for the first time.
