The Phillies' bats slumbered in a 9-3 loss to the Miami Marlins on Thursday night.

Starting pitching report
Jerad Eickhoff (6-11) took the loss.
 
He entered the game with a 2.45 ERA over his previous nine starts. However, he struggled in this one. He cruised through the first three innings then was hit hard over the next two. In all, he gave up nine hits, including a homer, and six runs over five innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out six.
 
Both of the hits that Koehler gave up were home runs. Only one of the three runs he gave up was earned. He walked one and struck out five. He is 7-8 with a 4.42 ERA.
 
Bullpen report
Andrew Bailey pitched two scoreless innings for the Phillies.
 
Daniel Stumpf gave up three runs.
 
Mike Dunn closed it out for Miami.
 
At the plate
Ryan Howard and Freddy Galvis had the Phillies’ first two hits, both homers. Howard’s was a two-run shot in the fourth. Galvis homered in the eighth. The Phils did not get their third hit until Peter Bourjos singled in the ninth.
 
Derek Dietrich had three of the Marlins’ boatload of hits. Marcell Ozuna drove in two runs. Christian Yelich homered for the Marlins.
 
Ichiro Suzuki had two hits. He is four away from 3,000 in his major-league career.
 
In the field
The Phillies’ outfield defense was not good as leftfielder Cody Asche and centerfielder Odubel Herrera both misplayed balls.
