Charlie Manuel on Today's Game Era Ballot for Baseball Hall of Fame

Does Charlie Manuel have a shot at the Hall of Fame after all?

Manuel is one of 10 members of a ballot that will be voted upon at the Winter Meetings in Las Vegas on Dec. 9. There are 16 voters, and if Manuel receives 12 or more votes, he'll be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a manager in July 2019.

Other members of the ballot: players Harold Baines, Albert Belle, Joe Carter, Will Clark and Orel Hershiser; managers Davey Johnson and Lou Piniella; and former Yankees owner George Steinbrenner.

Baines' best argument is longevity, but he doesn't feel like a Hall of Famer. Nor does Carter or Clark. All three belong in the Hall of Very Good. Albert Belle has the best case because of his ludicrous peak in the mid-to-late 90s, but his personality didn't do him any favors then and hasn't since.

Manuel, of course, led the Phillies to five straight NL East crowns, two straight World Series and a championship. He finished his career with exactly 1,000 wins. His teams finished below second place one time in his 10 full seasons with the Phillies and Indians.
