NEW YORK -- Julio Teheran tossed a one-hit masterpiece and did not allow any other baserunners, pitching the Atlanta Braves to a 6-0 victory Sunday that capped a surprising three-game sweep of the scuffling New York Mets.
Nick Markakis homered and drove in two runs for Atlanta, which has won five straight for the first time since the first five games of last season. Freddie Freeman had four hits and the Braves finally mustered some offense in support of Teheran (3-7), who yielded only Michael Conforto's clean single leading off the third inning.
Conforto never advanced, and the right-hander dominated New York the rest of the afternoon, spoiling Jacob deGrom's birthday as a Father's Day crowd of 41,576 booed the home team repeatedly (see full recap).
Giants win eighth straight with 5-1 win over Rays
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Brandon Belt homered and Joe Panik snapped an eighth-inning tie with a RBI single, helping the San Francisco Giants beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1 to extend their winning streak to a season-best eight games on Sunday.
Jake Peavy (3-6) pitched six solid innings to win for the third time in four starts and complete a three-game sweep. Belt hit his team-leading 10th homer off Rays starter Jake Odorizzi, and Panik delivered in a key situation for the second straight game with his run-scoring single against Xavier Cedeno (3-2) during San Francisco's four-run eighth.
Panik is just 2 for 14 through three games of San Francisco's week-long road trip, but both have broken late-inning ties. His three-run, ninth-inning homer was the big blow in Saturday's 6-4 win over Tampa Bay, which has lost four straight (see full recap).
Orioles use 19 hits to top Blue Jays, 11-6
BALTIMORE -- Matt Wieters homered and drove in four runs, and the Baltimore Orioles outslugged the Toronto Blue Jays 11-6 Sunday to provide right-hander Chris Tillman with his ninth straight victory.
