Best of MLB: Blue Jays Notch 2nd Straight Walk-off Win

TORONTO -- Russell Martin singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays beat Texas 4-3 on Wednesday night, their second straight last at-bat victory over the Rangers.

Edwin Encarnacion singled off Tony Barnette (1-2) to begin the ninth and was replaced by pinch-runner Ezequiel Carrera. Justin Smoak walked, Troy Tulowitzki popped up and Kevin Pillar walked to load the bases for Martin, who drove a ball beyond the reach of Nomar Mazara into the right field corner.

Martin was mobbed behind the mound by his teammates. The Blue Jays won 3-1 in 10 innings Tuesday on Justin Smoak's second home run of the game.

Roberto Osuna (1-0) worked one inning for the win (see full recap).

Nationals roll over Royals
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Daniel Murphy finished a triple shy of the cycle, slumping slugger Bryce Harper also went deep and the Washington Nationals routed the floundering Kansas City Royals 13-2 on Wednesday.

Murphy and Clint Robinson drove in three runs apiece, and just about everyone else in a gray jersey did something at the plate to help the Nationals post one of their best offensive performances in years.

Stephen Strasburg merely had to show up to push his career-best start to 5-0. The big righty wound up allowing two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out seven in six tidy innings.

Kris Medlen (1-3) allowed nine runs, six of them earned, and six hits in two-plus innings for Kansas City. His home ERA rose to 20.65 in two starts at Kauffman Stadium this season (see full recap).

Sabathia, Yankees snap 6-game skid
BALTIMORE -- CC Sabathia pitched seven sharp innings, Brian McCann drove in three runs and the New York Yankees ended their six-game losing streak by beating the Baltimore Orioles 7-0 Wednesday night.

Playing in his 1,000th major league game, Jacoby Ellsbury went 3 for 3 with two walks to help the Yankees improve to 9-16 and avoid their worst skid since April 2007.

Sabathia (2-2) turned in his best performance of the season at a time when New York desperately needed a victory. The lefty allowed six hits, walked two and struck out six.

After giving up three runs in each of his first four starts, the 35-year-old Sabathia craftily used a variety of off-speed pitches to earn his first win in nine tries at Camden Yards since 2011.

He outpitched Tyler Wilson (1-1), who took a one-hitter into the sixth before the light-hitting Yankees took a 3-0 lead (see full recap).
