Sean Couturier Returns to Philly With Knee Injury

Sean Couturier has returned to Philadelphia earlier than expected.

The Flyers' top line center sustained a knee injury in Quebec and has met with Flyers doctors to determine the severity of that injury.

According to Le Journal de Montreal, Couturier reinjured his surgically repaired right knee during a routine play at the Boot Camp tournament in Quebec City earlier this month. It's the same knee in which Couturier suffered an MCL tear when he collided with defenseman Radko Gudas during a routine practice back in April.

Couturier missed Game 4 of the Flyers' series against the Penguins but returned to play in the final two games, which included his heroic five-point effort in an 8-5 loss in Game 6 that eliminated the Flyers from the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Couturier made a full recovery over the summer through rest and rehab.

The Flyers' 25-year-old center is coming off a career season - he scored 31 goals along with 76 points and finished second in voting for the Selke Trophy as the league's top defensive forward.

Couturier and the rest of the Flyers' veterans begin training camp on Sept. 14.
