Scott Laughton Stretchered Off Ice After Hit Into Boards

Flyers forward Scott Laughton appeared to suffer a serious injury when he was sent into the boards behind the Capitals' net with 3:49 left in the first period of Wednesday's Game 4 against the Washington Capitals at the Wells Fargo Center.

On the play, Laughton was chasing the puck when he was hit from the side by Capitals defensemen John Carlson. Laughton went in to the bottom part of the boards at an awkward angle and his head appeared to snap back.

Laughton lay prone on the ice for several minutes before the Flyers' medical staff came out to stabilize his neck in a brace and wheel him off the ice on a stretcher.

General manager Ron Hextall said Laughton was taken to Jefferson Hospital where he'll stay overnight for precautionary reasons. All test results came back negative, the team announced.

It was a legal hit and no penalty was called on the play. Game action resumed shortly after Laughton was carted off.

Laughton, 21, was a first-round pick of the Flyers in 2012. He recorded seven goals and 14 assists in 71 regular-season games with the Flyers this season. Wednesday marked Laughton's third game in this series. He went pointless in the first two.
