NHL Notes: Rangers Sign KHL Forward Pavel Buchnevich

NEW YORK -- The New York Rangers have signed Russian forward Pavel Buchnevich.

General manager Jeff Gorton announced on Friday that the 21-year-old had signed an entry-level contract.

Buchnevich split this past season between Severstal Cherepovets and SKA St. Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League, collecting 16 goals and 21 assists in 58 games. He established KHL career-highs in games played, goals, assists, points, game-winning goals (three), power play goals (four), and average ice time (16:10).

Among KHL players younger than 24, Buchnevich ranked third in assists, ranked fourth in points, and tied for seventh in goals.

Buchnevich had 37 goals and 50 assists in 158 career KHL games over parts of four seasons (2012-13 - 2015-16). He was selected by the Rangers in the third round, 75th overall, of the 2013 NHL draft.

General manager Dean Lombardi had said last week that the Kings had offered Sutter a deal that was "very fair" to the two-time Stanley Cup champion coach.

Sutter is 186-112-45 in the regular season since being hired by the Kings in December 2011.

Los Angeles won the title in 2012 and 2014, but missed the playoffs last season. The Kings rebounded strongly and led the Pacific Division for most of this season, but finished one point out of first place before getting routed in five games by San Jose in the first round of the playoffs.

Stars: Seguin had strained calf after Achilles cut
FRISCO, Texas -- Tyler Seguin missed the last 11 games of the playoffs for the Dallas Stars with a strained left calf that was weakened by sitting out the final 10 games of the regular season because of a cut on his Achilles tendon.

The All-Star forward was limited to 16 minutes in Game 2 of a first-round series victory against Minnesota. He strained the calf in that game, his only appearance of the postseason, and missed all seven games of a second-round loss to St. Louis.

Seguin was second to captain Jamie Benn in scoring with 73 points (33 goals, 40 assists).

Forward Patrick Sharp separated a shoulder in the St. Louis series but didn't miss any time. Two other forwards were injured: Antoine Roussel (strained abdomen) and Travis Moen (broken wrist).
