Flyers Recall Defenseman Sam Morin for Tonight's Game Vs. Devils

The Flyers have recalled defenseman Sam Morin from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms for Tuesday's game in New Jersey against the Devils.

Morin, 21, is one of the Flyers' D-man prospects, a physical, 6-foot-7, 227-pounder. They could certainly use his size on the blue line.

Morin represents the future, so it makes sense for the Flyers to bring him up with just three meaningless games remaining. They were officially eliminated from the playoffs over the weekend in New York.

Morin has continued to put in work to become a better skater and puck-handler.

"I'm sure that's something people always tell him he needs to work on and he does," said Phantoms captain Colin McDonald, who was called up by the Flyers last Saturday. "He spends the extra time after practice. He works with the development coaches, the assistant coaches. He's doing everything he needs to to get a chance."

The 2013 first-round pick plays with a lot of snarl and nastiness. In mid-February, Morin was suspended for an unnecessary cross-check that injured Wilkes/Barre-Scranton's Garrett Wilson.

"He's just a high-energy guy," McDonald said of Morin. "He plays with a lot of emotion, a lot of energy. He'll stand up against anyone for anyone and I love that kid. Just wants to get better every day; he's just dying to make it and he will make it."

In 68 games with the Phantoms this season, Morin had three goals, 12 assists, was a minus-1 and leads the team with 120 penalty minutes.
